Color Blind Cure
Did you know that 8% percent of Caucasian men are color blind ? This is because the genes that carry red and green receptors are in the X chromosomes. Women have two X chromosomes so a normal one can usually balance the defective one out, but men only have one X chromosomes so they wouldn't have a good chromosome to balance it out. Due to the fact that so many males are color blind, scientists at Neitz laboratory decided to do tests on monkeys. The scientists injected human male genes into two color blind monkey's eyes giving them the ability to see color like they had their whole lives. After two years, these two monkeys have shown no signs of side effects and they can still see the colors perfectly. Before actually injecting this on humans, the scientists want to ensure that it is completely safe so they still have to perfect it. They estimate about ten years until this cure to color blindness is finally ready to be used on humans. My opinion on this is that is was a smart idea since humans and monkeys are very similar especially when it comes to intelligence. I also think it should really help the color blind people allowing them see normally and and maybe help them with a job. For example, if someone who was color blind wanted to be a pilot their vision impairment would prevent them from doing that due to the fact that the planes are built with red and green indicator lights.
